CHILDRENS ASSESSMENTS

Childrens biomechanical assessment

The main consideration with biomechanical assessments for children is the fact that consideration needs to be given to stages of development.

Children at the point of taking their first steps do not have the same walking gait pattern as that of an adult. Walking develops as children grow, and with this variation of alignment and movement patterns adjust as children develop.

Equally, there are particular clinical conditions that present in the growing child which require a specific treatment plan.

Conditions such as Sever's disease or Osgood Schlatters disease are conditions often related to the active growing child.

The other consideration is with children with underlying neurological conditions affecting gait such as cerebral palsy. The added complication for the management of children is growth and soft tissue management strategies.

Sport Orthotics have specialist paediatric clinicians who specialise in this area.
